Since the MOLE ANALYSIS GUIDE is a multimedia presentation rather than a
standalone software application package, it should run on every
well-equipped baseline computer system currently available If it doesn't
run or appears to do not function properly, please check the system's
hardware and its software settings in regard to the system's
requirements as indicated. This can be done also by testing the
application temporarily installed on another computer. Recheck whether
or not the flashplayer has been installed and the flash-, and java
plug-ins as well as your browser’s JavaScript option have been
activated, which is required to properly run the application.
If you don't know about the installations
running on your system's environment, you can find out easily by running
the freeware program System Information (SIW), which needs no
installation and is capable of running from a floppy disk or USB stick
likewise. For your convenience, you may download it from our server
here .
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
The MOLE ANALYSIS GUIDE runs on Windows PC systems (9X, Me, NT, 2000,
XP) equipped with activated and/or installed hard-/software multimedia
functionality such as audio, video, flash, and java. The PC system needs
to have hard-/software capabilities to display images and video (graphic
video card) as well as a soundcard to use audio functionality. External
loudspeakers are recommended. You need to have an internet browser with
activated JavaScript functionality installed (any). In order to display
multimedia content properly, the system needs to have the flashplayer
installed (executing *.swf flash-formatted files). If you don't have a
flashplayer installation on your system, you can get the most recent
version of the flashplayer at www.macromedia.com, or, more conveniently,
by clicking on the button "flash enabled" at the left screen basis,
which will call the flashplayer installer without the need to go online.
In addition, to display interactive multimedia content, your pc system
needs to have a java environment installed, either the Microsoft JAVA VM
(recommended), or the JAVA RUNTIME environment (Sun Microsystems, Inc.).
If this component is not installed, part of the multimedia content will
not display.
JAVA
The term “JAVA” should not be mixed up
with the term “JAVASCRIPT”, which latter is used as a scripting language
to add functionality to static web pages. Although the “JAVASCRIPT”
option on your system’s browser needs to be activated (to assure the
full functionality range), “JAVA” here means the system’s capability to
execute program modules (applets) designed in the JAVA programming
language. This can be achieved by simply installing the “JAVA”
environment either by using the Sun Java™ (Java™ 2 Runtime Environment)
or the Microsoft VM® (Microsoft Java Virtual Machine), which can be
downloaded for free on the respective websites. Without “JAVA”
functionality installed, significant parts of the MOLE ANALYSIS GUIDE
won’t display.
Java™ (Java™ 2 Runtime Environment) is a registered
trademark of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Microsoft VM® (Microsoft Java
Virtual Machine) is a registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation,
Inc. in the United States and/or other countries.
To check out whether or not JAVA has
alraedy been installed onto your system and which version is embedded,
here is how to check out:
Please call the command line
window (START>EXECUTE). Enter the following commands, press ENTER/OK,
and watch out what you'll get:
- javaw: if no error message
occurs, the Sun Java environment is installed on your system.
- wjview: if no error message
occurs, the Microsoft Java environment is installed on your system.
- jre: if no error message occurs,
the Sun Java environment version 1.1 is installed on your system (older
version, compatible with slow-speed older PC systems).
If you prefer to use the System
Information software (SIW), you can look up your java installation by
checking Software>Applications>System
files. Scroll down to the Java entry to check out. You may download this
stand-alone tool (no installation required)
here .
We do recommend to install the Microsoft
Java Virtual Machine, if problems occur. You may download it
here .
Microsoft provides a diagnostic tool
(JavaDiag.exe) which helps to locate information on the installed Java
components. You can download it
here (search all downloads / enter: Microsoft VM 10a.zip).
FLASH
“FLASH” is here referred to as a vector
graphic format packed to execute image and audio embedded *.swf files
(small web format, shockwave flash format). To display *.swf files, the
computer system requires to have the flash player installed. If you
don't have a flashplayer installation on your system, you can get the
most recent version of the flashplayer at www.macromedia.com, or, more
conveniently, by clicking on the button "FLASH ENABLED" at the left
screen basis, which will call the flashplayer installer without the need
to go online. Flash™, ShockWave™, and Macromedia Flash Player™ are
registered trademarks of Macromedia, Inc.
AUDIO
Part of the MOLE ANALYSIS GUIDE contains
audio media either as background music or as additional audio
information. In the case of background music, you may decide to turn off
audio at any time by clicking on the loudspeaker symbol displayed,
should you find the music annoying or simply don’t want the music to be
played aloud. Clicking again on the loudspeaker symbol will reactivate
the audio function at any time. Alternatively, you may also shut off the
audio function on your PC by using the system’s control panel audio
option.
